Phyu Ei Thein


Curator and designer Phyu Ei Thein promotes traditional hand weaving and textile art in Myanmar and international markets, creating more jobs for women through the development of community enterprise. She supports stipends for 20 graduates from weaving school, and offers technical advice for design. Phyu Ei Thein  is the co-founder of “ The River Ayeyarwaddy Gallery, Textile & Souvenir,” a gallery for the Sunflower Group and other social enterprises. She collaborates with local hand-loom weavers and weaving schools to maintain quality and fair trade. They create custom-made design of cotton, silk, lotus and Myanmar Chaik. And for 2015, she is preparing to open Sunflowers Weaving Studio in Nyaung Shwe, Shan State. It will be very first Natural Dye weaving studio in Burma.
