Daruma “Love” collectible figurine
This small daruma doll is from Gunma-prefecture in Japan. Daruma dolls are hollow and round and can upright themselves after falling over. The doll is modeled after Bodhi dharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism and is regarded as a good luck talisman. Having the admirable trait of always being able to get back up after being knocked down, it is a symbol of determination and perseverance. Traditionally, the doll is crafted without the eyes painted in. The owner or recipient of the doll is supposed to paint one eye in and make a wish and paint the other eye in when the wish comes true.
